Richard Hugh McCaw or best known as Richie, the inspirational captain of the All Blacks, was born on 31st December 1980 in the town of Oamaru. Oamaru is located in the South Island of New Zealand a boasts a population of approximately 20,000 residents.
Riche McCaw plays for the Canterbury rugby team in the Air New Zealand Cup and for the Crusaders in the Super 14 tournament.
Richie McCaw's All Blacks debut test match was on Saturday, 17 November 2001 verses Ireland at Lansdowne Road in Dublin. Richie McCaw signalled the start of a new era for the All Blacks with a vibrant and skilful performance in the 40-29 win over Ireland.
He was All Black number 1,014.
In the 2007 Rugby World Cup, Richie scored the first two tries against Italy at Marseille which produced a big win for the All Blacks 76 points to 14.
